budding shawlettes

Here is a lovely triangular  shawlette knitted of 100% wool yarn. It is so lacy and soft. The size is 85 x 200 cm.

Another one shawl is knitted using 100% coton yarn, I used the same pattern, because it is easy to follow and fast to knit.

The pattern I've found on Ravelry, written by Joyce Yu - Budding Shawlette.

how to make lace earrings

Art deco inspired lace earrings. I think that lace and freshwater pearls are great partners. It's easy to do yourself :) I used lace, freshwater pearls, textile glue, earwires and some findings (chain, pins, jump rings, filigree bases).
First step: cut out lace motifs you like. Then spread the back side and edges with fabric glue. Keep pieces flat until glue is dry. Gluing makes lace motifs more durable and less fragile.
Second step: attach earwires using round nose pliers. You can embellish earrings with beads, chains, charms as you like.

Textile glue must be transparent. If you have not textile glue, you can use white glue (PVA): mix 1 part of water to 1 part of glue (proportion 1:1), spread this mix to lace motifs and let dry.

These earrings shown on the photos are available in my shop ArtStitch on Etsy.

crocheted doilies as coasters

crocheted doilies by Lariata Some of little doilies look like lacy pancakes :) I have crocheted them using white 100% cotton yarn. Pattern is available for free on my favorite web: MyPicot.com. I have modified last two rows a little bit. So this doily measures about 13 cm (5").

crocheted coaster by Lariata The crocheted doily can be used as a coaster or a jam-jar cover. It's pretty, isn't it?

crocheted doily as coaster One crocheted doily more:

crocheted doily by Lariata This one measures 10 cm (about 4"), used the same 100% cotton yarn. I think that coasters can be multi-colored, so joyfully change the look on any kitchen.

re-used

crocheted doily with vintage crocheted lace
There was an old crocheted cover for a pillow, I crocheted it at school many times ago. It was very big one, about 60x60 cm. Unuseable. But my mom has diplomatically told me that the crocheted cover is beautiful and I get the "A" in a school. I renewed the cover to the doily, just attached a crocheted red lace around. I think the new item is more practical.

natural linen table runner with crocheted flowers and lace

natural linen table runner with crocheted flowers and lace
Do you remember I have won "Unloved" handmade journal? This journal is so very cute! So I decided to send the little "thank you gift" to Renate (Kreativlink). She was very surprised! :D (read about the surprise in her blog). Renate has scolded me a little, but I consider that gifts are similar so nobody should bear a grudge :)

Haapsalu shawl, part 3

Haapsalu shawl
This ugly knitted piece is a center piece of Haapsalu shawl. If I wash and trim this knit, it will change. The lace will get a beautiful look. I think that half of work is done. Now I'm kniting a lace edge to this center piece.

Haapsalu shawl - Queen Silvia pattern
This project I was started in September, 2009 with other Estonian artists in Estonian Handmade Forum. So I'm kniting very-very slowly. Some peoples got 2..14 Haapsalu shawls at this time, I was kniting my one :)

knitted lace of Estonia - Haapsalu shawl, part 1

Estonia has a long history of knitting and is home to some of the oldest knitted artefacts in Northern Europe, dating from the end of the XIII century. On the west coast of Estonia is the resort town of Haapsalu, famous for its thirteenth-century castle ruins, curative mud baths, and pleasant beaches. From the early XVIII century until 1918, when Russia ruled Estonia, it was during this period that Haapsalu became a destination for tourists and a flourishing resort town. The women of Haapsalu, being industrious and creative, began a cottage industry of knitting lace shawls that has continued into the XXI century.
The Estonians had no written instructions for their patterns - the techniques and designs were handed down from one generation to the next. Stitch patterns were preserved on long knitted samplers or on individual sample pieces. The knitter would study the sample and decipher the pattern without the aid of charts or written instructions.

This book is the first one with detailed instructions of techniques and patterns. In Estonia a true Haapsalu shawls (square, triangular and rectangular shawls) are made with openwork lace patterns, and if there is a lacy edge, it is always knitted separately and sewn to the completed center section by hand.

The Haapsalu shawl is so very lacy and thin that it is possible to drag a shawl through a ring.

Why I had written so much about Haapsalu shawl? Because I was started knitting the one :)
